The Packers' Glory Years
NFL History in the Making
This is the story of something that may never happen again. For the first time since the National Football League divided into two divisions back in 1933, a team put together three championships in a row. This is that story, based on "The Glory Years" program produced by WTMJ prior to the Super Bowl game on January 14, 1968. The overwhelming response to that program and the request for repeat shows and recordings prompted us to produce this record.
For some reason I began saving tape recordings of some of the play-by-play broadcasts during the 1965 season. I added to this collection in 1966, and when the 1967 season rolled around and the Packers had a shot at becoming the first three-time champions, the thought of a special program and perhaps a record entered my mind. This record is the result.
For eight years now I've had the greatest job in the world. Follwing the Green Bay Packers through five championships and two Super Bowl victories has to rank as a sportscaster's dream. For this I thank Vince Lombardi, his coaching staff and the great Packer teams.
Thanks again also to the close friends and football fans who have assisted me on the Packer Network broadcast the spotters, the statisticians and engineers who make football broadcasting easy and enjoyable. Much of the credit for this album must also go to them.
I hope this record is more than a salute to Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers I hope it will give you a chance to relive these great seasons and capture some of the excitement and sounds of one of the greatest sports stories ever written the story of "The Packers' Glory Years."
