Ranger Tim McIntyre is conducting a routine investigation after a climber falls from a cliff on Deer Mountain. However, the situation quickly escalates when there is a drowning, followed by a death related to an avalanche. As McIntyre digs deeper, he uncovers a disturbing pattern: someone is staging suicides. These apparent suicides are, in fact, murders designed to look like accidental or deliberate deaths.

To help him unravel this mystery, McIntyre's glamorous friend, Detective Vi Coteau, comes to Estes Park, hoping to share a romantic picnic with him amidst the chaos. Together, they must navigate the treacherous waters of deception, unravel the mystery, and confront a malevolent force lurking in the shadows.
