A true breakout from the Carson State Prison occurred on September 17, 1871. This newest story in the Will Toal series finds that the escapees include a mix of true historical outlaws along with fictional prisoners holding a grudge against our leading Carson Valley rancher. They burn his home, steal his horse, and come close to murdering his family in their sleep. Will sets off with good friend, Dale Paris, determined to apprehend the escapees. The trail leads south through the badlands of Nevada to the mining fields of California. The historical chase ends in a gun battle on the watery shores of an alpine lake set at the base of Mt. Morrison deep within the Eastern Sierra crevasse called Diablo Canyon. The massive shootout would give its name to the waterway now known as Convict Lake. Will Toal won’t stop until he brings those prisoners who threatened his world back to Carson City in chains following their . . . . . BREAK OUT.
