Within these pages are Western Writers of America Spur Award and Western Fictioneers Peacemaker Award winning stories by writer Rod Miller. The cast of characters includes cowboys, gamblers, gunfighters, swindlers, outlaws, lawmen, pioneers, miners, mules, horses, cattle, at least one sheep, and the occasional fair maiden. There is adventure, violence, hardship, struggle, and triumph. Mystery, conflict, suspense, and humor.  

Selected are Miller’s first short story, Good Horses, and his award-winner, Black Joe. In between are stories published in various anthologies and periodicals, along with stories appearing here for the first time.
