A Storied Legacy ...A Fan's Heritage

Bobby Orr, hockey's newest Golden Boy, wrested the puck from St. Louis forward Larry Keenan. He shoveled it into the corner to Bruin's teammate Derek Sanderson. Orr broke for the net. Sanderson flipped a pass over a defenseman's stick and Bobby slid it between the legs of veteran goalie Glenn Hall. Goal I The Bruins .win their first Stanley Cup championship in 29 years and pandemonium breaks loose in Boston Garden.

This memorable moment in sudden death overtime is caught in all its splendor and excitement in GOAL:BRUINSI, an exciting chronicle of the many events that led to the Stanley Cup, hockey's Holy Grail. First comes the regular season play, dominated so greatly by Orr, a 22-year-old defenseman from Parry Sound, Ont., who has revolutionized the style of play in the National Hockey League. Each of Orr's major milestones is described in full by play-by-play announcer Don Earle.

Orr became the first defenseman in history to win the scoring championship (a record 33 goals and 87 assists for 120 points).

He is the only man ever to win four individual NHL Trophies in one season: Ross (scoring); Hart (Most Valuable); Norris (Best Defenseman) and Conn Smythe (Stanley Cup MVP).

But this is not a mere account of the wonderful feats of Robert Gordon Orr. Indeed, it recounts Johnny Bucyk's 300 the goal, the scoring feats of sad-eyed phil Esposito, the goaltending heroics of Gerry Cheevers and Eddie Johnston.the tenacious forecheking of Derek "Turk" Sanderson, the mod-mod center and more, much more. Nothing quite matches the drama and ferocity of Stanley Cup play.

GOAL: BRUINS! describes the bruising, bone-crunching six-game series with the New York Rangers that created a NHL record for penalty minutes, the deft plays and gigantic roars of the crowds in Boston and at Madison Square Garden.

The Bruins pass their first test and then it's off for Chicago, that toddlin town.

Surprise! The Bruins sweep to four straight on the brilliance of Orr, Esposito, Cheevers, the slick play-making of the Bucyk-Stanfield-McKenzie line and the superb "shadow" job Westfall does on high-scoring Bobby Hull, who is kept off the scoreboard.

Now comes St. Louis. The Stanley Cup, the oldest trophy in the history of North American sport, is up for grabs as East meets West. The Bruins storm into St. Louis. The Blues put a "shadow" on Orr, first time such strategy has been used against a NHL defenseman. It doesn't work. Boston wins their first three games.

Now for the finale. The lead keeps changing hands. Bucyk's late goal ties the score, 3-3. Orr scores the clincher and the champagne corks pop in the wild-and-wooly Bruins' dressing room.

It's all here, every pulsating moment of the action plus interviews with players. If you're a hockey buff, this is "must" listening!
